5a: School Resources and Budget
The principal/assistant principal establishes budget processes and systems which are focused on, and result in, improved student achievement.
Below are my three greatest takeaways regarding budget:
1. The budget should be aligned with the school's mission, vision and School Improvement Plan.
2. A principal must collaborate very closely with their bookkeeper to (a) gain a deeper understanding of the school's budget, (b) ensure funds are being used appropriately and (c) identify creative and strategic ways to use funding.
3. There are different funds (local, state, capital outlay, Title 1...) and the principal must understand how each fund can be used and/or be willing to ask questions about each source.
