The principal/assistant principal articulates a vision, and implementation strategies, for improvements and changes which result in improved achievement for all students.
P.O.W.E.R.
In February 2017, North Edgecombe High School implemented a new, innovative schedule to improve student outcomes called POWER. An Innovative Scheduling Committee met throughout the fall of 2016 to visit other schools in Eastern North Carolina already implementing POWER and to prepare for the implementation at NEHS. The team continues to analyze data to monitor the success of POWER and looks forward to collecting summative student achievement data to examine the outcomes of POWER and make adjustments for next school year.
Opportunity Culture
Beginning in the fall of 2016, I participated as a member of North Edgecombe High School's Opportunity Culture School Design Team. Through several one-day sessions, I have collaborated with our team to set a vision and make strategic decisions for Opportunity Culture implementation at NEHS.
1c: School Improvement Plan
The school improvement plan provides the structure for the vision, values, goals and changes necessary for improved achievement for all students.

The principal/assistant principal creates and utilizes processes to distribute leadership and decision making throughout the school.
Distributive Leadership at North Edgecombe High School
In order to spread decision making throughout the school, we have continued collaboration with and created several teams of teachers to drive decisions for important initiatives. These teams include:
I have partnered closely with our School Improvement Team chair to support her in facilitation of School Improvement Team meetings. She is now creating dynamic agendas that increases engagement of all SIT members and gathers feedback from the team on the process and outcomes of meetings.
I collaborated with our math District and School Transformation coach, Gertrude Newkirk, to train our math PLC on creating agendas and facilitating PLCs so that they are data and standards-driven. Below is an example of PLC agenda created by one of our math teachers after the training.
